A little bit of Springtime in Paris was very special as we were treated to an excellent dinner at Hervè Martin’s French Table on Main Street. Hervè is one of Vancouver’s renowned restaurateurs and his restaurant is a welcoming bistro. We started our evening with a non-vintage Philipponant non dosage Brut Reserve champagne and many warm gougères as we circulated and socialised around a model Eiffel Tower.
Our first course was a well-presented smoked salmon with celery root and exotic fruit paired with a 2022 Bailly Reverdy Sancerre la Mercy-Dieu and 2017 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Blanc Clos de Montmeix from Domaine Michelot followed by Roasted rack of Lamb with Thyme and Cumin Jus, Roasted Garlic Croutons, Gratin Dauphinois and Glazed Vegetables paired with a 2018 Chateau Clair Moulin Bordeaux and 2014 Jean-Luc Colombo Côtes du Rhône les Abeilles. An interesting comparison.
To finish our meal we enjoyed Iles Flottante (Floating Island) with Toasted Almonds and a perfect Crème Anglaise together with1997 Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon. A sweet ending indeed!
Our thanks go to Hervè Martin for arranging a superb dinner, to Cellarmaster Kim Mead for her wine selection and excellent presentation, ably assisted by Sommelier member Leagh Barkley.
