The best plans can sometime be improved – especially when the weather gods do not cooperate for a picnic! So, our planned East meets West: A picnic in the park was relocated due to inclement weather to the nearby apartment of Vancouver president and Boss, Jim and Milena Robertson, with a view overlooking our planned picnic location. Our event was incredibly well organised by Events Chair Van Doren Chan and assisted by Bob Vukovich (surprised birthday!) and we enjoyed an array of Filipino dishes accompanied by an array of wines from our cellar and generous donations of bottles from our members for a Paulée.
Our dishes included crispy Lechon Kawaii, LongamisaSlicers, Beef Enpanadas, Lumpiang Shanghai, Miki Sotanghon and Adobe Chickenwith a sweet Polvoron soft shortbread for dessert. Our wines included 2020Black Chalk sparkling wine, Philipponnat Champagne Royale Réserve, 2020 DomaineChristian Moreau Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon Cuvée Guy Moreau, and 2020 ChâteauGromel Bel Air Cuvée Eva plus reds such as 2013 Domaine la BarrocheChâteauneuf-du-Pape and 2016 Domaine Brusset Gigondas Tradition Le GrandMontmirail as well as other Pauléewines. A highly enjoyable picnic- and we all stayed dry!
Our thanks go to Events Chair Van Doren Chan, Bob Vukovich for organising the picnic, to Milena Robertson for hosting the backup venue and to Goldilocks Bakery and Catering for the Filipino food.
