The 2015 vintage in Bordeaux was generally rated as “excellent” to “spectacular” with the IWFS granting a perfect rating of 7 out of 7 for both Right and Left bank red wines so it was with enthusiasm that our members sat down at the Culinary Commons of the Chefs’ Table Society for a horizontal tasting. Sid Cross gave an entertaining and illuminating presentation of the wines with many personal anecdotes and information about the wineries as well as a commentary on the wines.
In order of tasting, the wines were 2015 Château Le Roudier (Bordeaux Supérieur),
2015 Château Franc le Maine (Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru), 2015 Château Haut-Bergey ( Graves, Pessac-Léognan), 2015 Château Brown (Graves, Pessac-Léognan) , 2015 Château Potensac (Médoc), 2015 Les Fiefs de Lagrange (Médoc, St. Julien), 2015 Château Olivier (Graves, Pessac-Léognan), 2015 Château Pibran (Médoc, Pauillac) and 2015 Château Marquis de Terme (Médoc, Margaux). With representation from the Right Bank as well as several communes from the Left Bank, the wines showed character and class. Overall, preference was given to the more voluptuous Left Bank wines, with the Right Bank showing a lighter, easy-drinking style.
Following the tasting we were treated to nine Asian snacks, prepared and presented by our own chef/sommelier and Event Committee Chair, Van Doren Chan, a real treat to end a most enjoyable evening. Our thanks go to Sid Cross for his presentation, to Van Doren Chan for her delicious food and to Shawna Gardham, Executive Director of the Chefs Table Society of British Columbia for all of her valuable assistance. And to all of our members who helped to clear up after the event. |
